Beautiful Tibetan gong (made in Nepal). Elaborately decorated with the Tree of Life, the Wheel of Life including the seven chakra symbols, the Sri Yantra diagram, the OM symbol, and various mantras and ornaments.
This type of gong is similar in construction to the Chinese TamTam gongs, i.e. the edge is bent backwards and the middle forms a small dome.
Basic character of this type of gong
When struck forcefully in the center, this type of gong produces deep and mysterious bass tones, while a lighter strike in the spaces between them produces shimmering overtones. Also characteristic is its rather powerful, stable sound, concentrated in the center, which gradually bubbles up, then explodes, and then returns to the center. The high notes fade slowly and evenly during the decay. At the end, usually only the lowest note is audible.
The larger the gong, the more impressive and penetrating the features described above are.
